Mice and Rats

Differences between mouse and rat

To begin with, we must be clear that the rat and the mouse do not belong to the same species. The rat belongs to the genus Rattus which includes up to 57 different species such as Rattus rattus or Rattus norvegicus. The mouse, on the other hand, belongs to the genus Mus and there are about 38 very different species, including the Mus musculus, known as the "house mouse." Physically and in general, we can distinguish a mouse from a rat by their size: rats can measure up to almost 40 centimeters while the mouse is smaller, its size varies from 3 to 10 cm (although some can reach up to 15).

Specifications

The best way to physically differentiate a rat from a mouse is by its appearance, taking into account small details:

  • rats have larger paws
  • the ears of the mouse are proportionally larger than those of the rat
  • the tail of the mouse is long, thin, and hairy
  • the tail of the rat is long, thick, bicolored, and hairless
  • rats are dark gray/brown, mice are light gray/brown
  • the nose of the mouse is triangular and pointed, that of the rat is square-shaped
  • The whiskers of mice tend to be longer than those of rats, as they have slightly reduced visual capacity, which they compensate for with highly developed hearing and smell.

Rodent control

Rodent control is the process by which mice and rats are captured or killed in public and private environments, both to avoid public health problems, since mice are carriers of numerous diseases, and to prevent contamination of premises due to the droppings of these rodents. Rodent control therefore improves the environment and enhances the perception of cleanliness and efficiency by users.

The activity of mice and rats damages electrical systems and can cause short circuits, interruption of connections and consequently economic damage. The proliferation of these animals is due to the presence of waste, which they feed on, but also to the absence of natural predators.

Monitoring

Every rodent control intervention is effective only if accompanied by constant monitoring, even in the area surrounding the treated site. In fact, short-term interventions that do not take the surrounding environment into account do not guarantee the success of the intervention.

Respect for the directives

Diversification by environments

There are several methods currently used for rodent control: there are killer baits (rodenticides, poisons), traps (killers, with baits, etc.), non-lethal ultrasonic methods, etc. Each method must always comply with the directives of the HACCP protocol, which require that the possibility of contaminating the environment and food must be eliminated.

Consequently, the best rodent control method is the one that uses mechanical traps, but this is not always possible. While mechanical traps (with adhesives, multi-capture, and without poisonous baits) can be used inside facilities, poisonous baits can be placed in outdoor environments.

Electronic Mouse Killer

Mouse Trap Kit

Mimetic Mhouse

Mimetic-Mhouse  is an innovative multi-capture trap for mice and rats, practical, versatile, and eco-friendly, allowing you to control rodent infestations without using poisons and without danger to people or other non-target animals.

The special baiting system allows the rodent to become familiar with the trap and feed undisturbed before being captured, so as not to arouse suspicion among other members of the population.

The captured rodents fall into an internal collection container that prevents any contamination of the surrounding environment. The deodorizing liquid to be used with Mimetic Mhouse prevents the onset of unpleasant odors after capture, allowing the pest controller to schedule visits according to the normal frequency.

The trap is designed for indoor use and offers a valid alternative to traditional methods in all those areas where chemicals cannot be used. The system is equipped with metal plates that are automatically activated when the rodent passes by, for instant and immediate killing through an electric shock; the high-voltage discharge causes death without causing suffering.

A24 traps are eco-friendly and toxin-free and have been designed to save time and effort with easy setup.
Attracted by a long-lasting bait for rats or stoats, once triggered the killed pests fall from the trap, which immediately resets itself at least 24 times per CO2 canister, requiring less time for monitoring.
