Spiders are a very common presence in most homes... who has never found a spider in the house wandering undisturbed in the rooms and in the darkest and most unexpected corners? This animal, belonging to the arachnid family, is quite harmless if taken individually and bites only if truly threatened, however if not removed in time it causes discomfort and its presence becomes synonymous with poor cleanliness and neglect.
Spiders generally feed on insects that they catch and immobilize using their web, which is also used to form cocoons to protect their eggs. Some species live exclusively outdoors, while others may enter homes and adjacent premises. Most spiders are harmless: they have venom glands, but the venom is mainly used to immobilize their small prey. Towards humans, spiders are usually not aggressive, but sometimes they may bite in self-defense, causing only localized pain, redness, and swelling in some cases.
In Italy, only a few species of spiders can cause more serious symptoms, such as the Malmignatta or black widow (which lives outdoors, in environments with stones and shrubs) or the Violin spider, so called because of a characteristic violin-shaped mark on the front part of its body. The bite of Lycosa tarentula, a large spider that lives outdoors, can be painful but generally has localized effects.

Arachnophobia, the fear of spiders, is one of the most common phenomena in humans. In fact, for many people, just seeing a small spider at home is enough to grab the bare essentials and flee to the other side of the world. The bravest among arachnophobes, on the other hand, try in every way to kill the spiders they find at home, but this is a behavior to avoid.
The spiders we generally find at home, in fact, are rather discreet, not aggressive, and not dangerous to humans. They usually weave their webs to catch prey of all kinds, including harmful insects for humans, especially mosquitoes. Pholcids, for example, are very afraid of humans and do not pose a threat: killing them not only serves no purpose, but deprives us of the chance to have a valuable predator of animals that are definitely more annoying or dangerous in our homes.
If our house has been infested by spiders, do-it-yourself methods could turn out to be useless if not even counterproductive. In fact, if the spider feels threatened, it can bite and directly injure both people and animals, with consequences that can often become serious. Therefore, relying on a specialized company for spider extermination can be the ideal solution. Thanks to a careful inspection, it will be possible to carry out the right treatment not only perfect for the type of environment, but also for the type of spider to be exterminated.
